Veere Di Wedding Movie Review: more than a Chick Flick
Produced by Ekta Kapoor and directed by Shashanka Ghosh, “Veere Di Wedding” hit the screens this last weekend. Starring Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania, this movie is definitely more than just 4 friends hanging out, chugging alcohol and spitting out cuss words, all the while being their best fashionable selves.
The movie can be considered quite inclusive; it has something for the straight, the not-so-straight, the married, the single, the to-be-divorced, the slim as well as the not-so-slim. All the character types fit in well to grip the viewers throughout the film.
The plot revolves around the marriage of Kalindi (Kareena) to her beau Rushabh (Sumeet Vyas). Kalindi invites her childhood friends to the wedding, resulting in the madness-filled wedding days and a surprising aftermath.
The lead characters Kalindi, Avni, Sakshi and Meera are interestingly written characters, each actress adding her own unique style to the portrayal of their respective characters. Despite Kareena-Sonam being big stars, the screen space has been shared equally by all the actresses and each character stands out in its own glory. There is comedy and drama, and yet, the movie maintains a balance between the two. While some have criticized Kareena for being too classy for the role, others have criticized the movie for being predictable.
However, the beauty of the film lies in the fact that one can empathize with the characters and their problems. In all, it is the perfect Girl’s Day Out film!
