In South Africa, Indian- origin woman suspected of links with ISIS

Indian- origin woman, Fatima Patel has been arrested with her partner Safydeen Aslam Del Vecchio by South African special police unit Hawks. Presumably ISIS members, the two culprits are the main suspects in the missing of a British couple.

Rodney Saunders and his wife Rachel were last seen on 12 February and their car was found around 200 miles from where they disappeared. Feared to have been kidnapped by an ISIS- linked in South Africa, the suspicions grew after the arrest of Patel Del Vecchio. The police declared that the accused are allegedly linked to ISIS.

Charges of robbery have also been made against the accused couple after it was that they used the Saunders’ credit card. During their arrest, ISIS recruitment materials as well as an ISIS flag were found at their place. They are actually accused to breach Protection of Constitutional Democracy Against Terrorism and Related Activities Act.

According to their lawyer, Yousha Tayob, after having in court, they are now detained at the Westville Prison in KwaZulu-Natal province. In 2016, Fatima’s brother Ibrahim Mohammed Patel was also arrested under terrorism charges.
