Thousands of people protests over Asifa and Unnao gang rape case
Protests had been held in many cities across India, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bhopal, Bengaluru, Goa and Thiruvananthapuram, today as the public expresses outrage over child abuse. The Unnao gang rape case had shattered the country last week as MLA Kuldeep Singh was allegedly accused of abusing a 16 year- old girl. However, the case of Asifa gang rape revealed this week through Jammu- Kashmir’s police charge-sheet had ignited the match in the powder barrel.
Thousands of people had marched in the streets to express their support to Unnao and Kathua victims’ by carrying placards and forming a human chain. Protests were also held in Rajasthan’s Ajmer, Gujarat’s Surat, Punjab capital Chandigarh, and Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, in Delhi, Swati Maliwal, the chief of Delhi Women’s Commission, had announced a hunger strike.
Many people had criticised Modi’s government reaction over these atrocities. As a consequence, a group of 49 former civil servants had expressed their anger to the government in an open letter. Protestants are calling for justice and legislation review concerning sexual abuse.
