Kunal Kohli to shoot for the remake Ramayana in Mauritius!
While Aamir Khan is keen on bringing the epic tale of Mahabharata to the big screen, Kunal Kohli is all set to bring Ramayana to Bollywood. The film is set to be shot in Mauritius, being the first Indian mythological film to be shot outside India. The pre-production has already begun and the shoot is set to last for 3 months with around 3000 people in the crew.
Not only will Kunal Kohli produce this film, but he will also direct it. He has revealed that he doesn’t plan to cast A-listers in this mythological tale but rather wishes to introduce new faces to the Indian film industry.
Although he hasn’t revealed many details about the movie, he has assured the audience that the saga of Rama, Sita and Raavan will be retained in the original context and will not be adapted into a modern or contemporary take of the story. He has been working on this film for quite some time now.
The film will hit theatres in 2019, although the exact date is yet to be announced.
The Ramayana, which means “Rama’s Journey”, is one of the fundamental texts of Hinduism and Hindu mythology. The poem is traditionally attributed to the legendary hermit Valmiki (nicknamed “Adikavi”, the “First Poet”), who appears as a character in the first and last chapters, which are considered more recent compositions than the others. The story comprises of Rama’s exile, Sita’s kidnapping and rescue, and their return to Ayodhya.
