The official trailer for John Abraham’s upcoming film, Satyamev Jayate was released on 28th June, 2018. The film features John in the role of a serial killer, bent on hunting down corrupt police officers. He is motivated by the need to avenge his father (presumably a police officer who was wronged by corrupt officers) who committed suicide in front of him, when he was just a child.
In the beginning of the trailer, John says, “There are nearly 4200 religions in this world. And thousands of people die for them and kill for them, every day.”
This has caused a tizzy among fans as it has been interpreted as an insult against religion and religious beliefs of the people. A case has been filed against the film by a man named Syed Ali Jaffary. He stated that there was an “objectionable” scene in the trailer the hurts religious beliefs and sentiments.
Based on this complaint, a case has been registered against Emmy Entertainments and others under IPC section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) and relevant sections of the Cinematograph Act.It is yet to be seen what action will be taken against the producers of the film. The film is directed by Milap Milan Zaveri and it also stars Manoj Bajpayee, Amruta Khanvilkar and Aisha Sharma. It is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Nikkhil Advani Monisha Advani & Madhu Bhojwani.
The film is set to release on 15th August, 2018.
