Some 26 people have died in Kerala following heavy rains which caused landslides and flash floods. Government is monitoring the situation and 48-member team expected to reach Wayanad by Friday morning. 15 members brought by helicopter are already in the area. According to latest news, two more houses collapsed after a landslide.
In a tweet this afternoon, Prime Minister Narendra Modi says government will give all possible assistance to those affected by the natural calamity. “We stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Kerala in the wake of this calamity,” wrote Modi. Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday announced Rs 5 crore flood relief to the Kerala government.
Since Wednesday, heavy rains poured in the northern parts of Kerala which forced authorities to evacuate 2300 people living on the banks of Periyar River to 38 camps.
