Sniffer dogs, bomb detection and disposal squads, in coordination with the officials from the Special Protection Group (SPG) had cleared the funeral route. The last rites of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will take place at 4 pm this Friday at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal in New Delhi. Thousands of mourners are expected to reach central Delhi.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee died at the age of 93 on Thursday. His body was kept at his official residence and then taken to the BJP headquarters at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg where 50,000-60,000 party members are expected to pay him tribute.
The funeral procession would leave at 1pm and the last rites fix at 4pm.
In Delhi, over 5,000 policemen and paramilitary personnel will form a multi-layer security cordon for a smooth passage of the funeral procession to the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal, according to media reports. Many roads will be closed today.
