The famed RK Studios built by the legendary late patriarch of the Kapoor family, Raj Kapoor, will be reportedly going up on sale soon, as per sources. Raj Kapoor built the studios in Chembur area of Mumbai, nearly 70 years ago. This studio is sprawled across 2 acres of land and has been a witness to numerous famous film production and shootings. Some of these movies were, Awaara, Barsaat, Aag and more.
Rishi Kapoor, in an interview to Mumbai Mirror, explained that they had to take the decision by keeping a stone on their hearts. They gave it a lot of thought and realized that no matter how much effort they put, the studios will not emerge once again in all its glory, like a phoenix from its ashes. In a true sense, a fire destroyed most of the studio, last September. It was only beneficial for the family to sell it for the sake of the larger scheme of things.
Moreover, many of the filmmakers now prefer to set their sets up in Andheri or Goregaon film city, rather than RK studios at Chembur. The recurring losses were already becoming a problem, and last year’s fire was the last nail in the coffin. The family, under Krishna Raj Kapoor, the wife of the late actor-director-producer Raj Kapoor, have already contacted brokers and contractors for the sale of the studios.
