Yamla Pagla Deewana is centered on Sunny Deol’s character who is an Ayurvedic practitioner using a “magic” formula to heal any and all diseases in his poor patients. He is being hounded by big pharma companies to share his secret medicine. The film also features Bobby Deol as his younger brother and Dharmendra as their squatting tenant. All three characters as unique and distinguished by their own traits and qualities but they come together to create an amazing synergy that resonates with the audiences.
This film carries the typical elements of the franchise while featuring a new story and fresh characters. The reel reflects the real as Dharmendra is clearly the leader of the pack. His infectious charm and hilarious antics have the audiences in fits of laughter all throughout. Sunny and Bobby portray their typical characteristics with Sunny’s Dhaai Kilo Ka Haath and Bobby’s repetitive humor.
There are a few other characters in the film but none of them have a lasting impact with their performance. The story itself has a few LOL moments and some good punch lines but overall the humor quotient falls short.
The film bears all the marks of a good comedy but as it leads into the second half, the steam is lost. The climax is predictable and nothing out of the ordinary. If you’re a Deol fan, you are sure to enjoy the film.
