Police raid an illegal orphanage run by Father Thomas Antony in Kashmir. 20 children including 8 girls were rescued. Some of the children levelled serious allegations of sexual abuse, torture and physical assault against the man who was running the orphanage.
The children were aged between 5 to 15 years. According to police, the orphanage had been running in liaison with Pentecostal Mission in Pathankot but there was no board or hoarding suggesting the name or existence of an orphanage in the rented accommodation. During the raid, police noted that there was no female warden at the orphanage. Father Thomas Antony’s wife had left the centre long ago and has gone to Kerala.
All the children will be examined by doctors and police refused to make any comment on this issue pending the outcome of the investigations.
