Blackbuck Poaching Case: Rajasthan Govt to Appeal against the acquittal of the Five actors
Rajasthan govt to appeal against acquittal of Salman, Tabu, Neelam, Saif and Sonali

There have been many cases in the Indian courts which have been going for decades. One such case is the Blackbuck poaching case where actors Salman Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabbu, Saif Ali Khan and Neelam had been accused of allegedly hunting down two endangered blackbucks in the Kankani village, near Jodhpur while shooting for one of their movies named ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’.

In 1998, the Bishnoi villagers had filed a complaint against Salman Khan and his co-actors for the alleged hunting of two endangered blackbucks. On October 12, 1998, Salman Khan was arrested for killing the blackbucks and later on granted bail. Since then the case has been reopened and postponed several times. This case is going on for almost two decades now 1998-2018.

All the five accused in the Blackbuck poaching case apart from Salman Khan were acquitted and given a clean chit by the Jodhpur court earlier in a verdict that was declared on April 2018 on the grounds of lack of evidence.

Salman Khan, has been sentenced to five years in prison and fined Rs 10,000 for hunting two blackbucks in Jodhpur in 1998…

The actors might have breathed a sigh of relief but now it looks like they will have their heart in mouth again. Despite getting a clean cheat it looks like the actors will have to face some serious problems now, as the Rajasthan government has now made an appeal against the acquittal of the five actors which has increased the troubles for the actors.

The appeal by the government will request that Dinesh Gawre, who was also involved in the case but was missing, to be tried as an accused. The forest department had written to the state government for sanction to appeal against the five actors. The appeal against the actors will be filed at the Rajasthan High Court.

“A few days back, we received the sanction from the state government to appeal against the acquittal of Khan, Tabu, Neelam, Bendre, and Singh. After the verdict, the public prosecutor of the trial court had given his opinion to the law department whether an appeal should be filed,” as stated by additional advocate general K Vyas.

In a judgment on 5th April 2018, the court found actor Salman Khan guilty of killing two endangered Blackbucks in a village near Jodhpur back in October 1998 and sentenced him to 5 years imprisonment and a monetary fine of Rs 10,000. After the verdict, Salman Khan was sent to the Jodhpur central jail where he spent two days before getting a bail. Salman Khan had filed an appeal in the Sessions court challenging the trial court’s verdict. This stands to be one of the most infamous cases for Salman Khan.

Salman Khan was convicted under the section 9/51 of the Wildlife (Protection) act. During this verdict in April 2018, Salman was proven guilty and put behind bars but his co-stars had got a bail.
Sonali Bendre has recently recovered from cancer. Would be interesting to see what would be the court’s verdict.
