5 Indians among 50 dead in New Zealand’s Christchurch mosque terror attack

The Indian High Commission in New Zealand confirmed that 5 Indians are among the 50 killed in the deadly terror attack where Brenton Tarrant, the Australian gunman had stormed the Christchurch Mosque and went on a shooting rampage. This is considered to be one of the deadliest attacks in New Zealand. Two churches were on the target of the gunman.

In a tweet, the high commission informed that immigration New Zealand has setup a webpage to expedite visa for family members of the Christchurch victims. The five nationalists who died in the mosque attacks have been named by the Indian High commission in New Zealand. The deceased included four men and one woman. The names of the victims are Ozair Kadir, Asif Vora, Maheboob Khokhar,  Ramiz Vora and Ansi Alibava. “With a very heavy heart we share the news of loss of precious lives of our 5 nationals in ghastly terror attack in #Christchurch” tweeted the high commission. Farhaj Ahsan, a resident from Hyderabad was one of the nine Indians missing after the attack was found dead and the news of his death was confirmed by his family members.

Sushma Swaraj, India’s minister of External Affairs strongly condemned this dastardly attack by saying “Our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones”. The family of the Australian gunman said they were stunned and shocked by his horrific deeds. Jacinda Ardern, the New Zealand Prime Minister said that the dead bodies will be released to their family members on Sunday night. The New Zealand authorities are trying their best to identify the dead bodies of the 50 people killed in the massacre so that their family members can bury them as per their traditions.

The most shocking thing was that Brenton Tarrant had telecasted the whole massacre through his Facebook live. The suspected gunman appeared in court and has been charged with murder and has been remanded till 5 th April 2019.
