In a shameful incident, a 5-year-old girl was raped by temple priests inside the temple premises in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh.
Police have arrested both the priests Raju Pandit(55) and Batoli Prajapati (45), and have booked them under the section 376 of the Indian Penal code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POSCO) act.
The girl who is a farmer’s daughter has been admitted to the hospital and has been declared safe and stable.
The accused lured the girl with a sweet dish inside the temple. They raped her and threw her outside her home. They threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone. Out of fear, the girl didn’t reveal the incident to anyone, but the girl’s mother noticed that the girl was suffering from pain and she asked her what actually happened. The girl initially didn’t say anything but later on, she revealed the horrifying situation she had to go through.
The family members rushed the girl to the hospital and later on lodged a complaint against the accused. The police came to know after the investigation that the accused had assaulted other minors too in the past because several minors complained that the priests were not good.
This horrifying case is an addition to the latest series of rape happening in the state of Madhya Pradesh. According to recent stats revealed by state women’s cell records,1,894 rapes and 4,069 molestation cases were registered in the first five months of 2018, which averages to 13 rapes and 27 instances of molestation every day.
In December 2017, Madhya Pradesh became the first Indian state to pass a bill providing to be rapists to be hanged till death for raping girls aged below 12. According to the bill, the minimum punishment would be 14 years rigorous imprisonment or life term till death.
Over the past seven months, fast-track courts in Madhya Pradesh have pronounced 12 death sentences.
