Amazon Prime’s ‘Mirzapur’ is a Familiar Gangster Saga

Mirzapur‘, the new show of Amazon Prime Video is a nine-episode series reminding the Anurag Kashyap’s gangster world. Directed by Anshuman, Gurmeet Singh, and Mihir Desai, this third show of Amazon Prime has many top actors but the main feature of the show is guns. IT seems the story is not about people but how guns rule the world.

Set in a typically dysfunctional fictional town of Mirzapur in eastern Uttar Pradesh, the story revolves around a local gun load Akhandanand Tripathi aka Kaleen Bhaiya. In reality, the town of Mirzapur is known for its intricately designed carpets. The base of the show has Kaleen Bhaiya as the most influential carpet manufacturer and supplier. But the real source of his wealth is the guns and the opium smuggling.

Mirzapur‘ features the battle for Kaleen Bhaiya’s position and power. It involves a lot of bloodshed and everything that we usually see in Anurag Kashyap’s guns and goons dramas. So, we didn’t find anything new or surprising. However, the makers tried delivering the impressive content, this show serves the same dish.

As for the actors, Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya is impressive but Divyendu Sharma as Munna Bhaiya is overwhelming, and Ali Fazal is a complete surprise as Guddu Pandit. The camera work is hasty, dialogues are unimpressive and the overall show is very bulky.
