An aide of Rahul Gandhi and overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda made a highly controversial statement by saying that “attacks like Pulwama happen all the time and India should not attack Pakistan”. He said that it was not right to punish Pakistan only because of a few terrorists. He further said that the Indian government could have sent jets after 26/11 but that wasn’t the best route. In a nutshell, he questioned the logic of IAF jets attacking terror camps in Pakistan.
BJP President Amit Shah sought an explanation from Rahul Gandhi about the irresponsible statement of Pitroda’s. On 14th February 2019, a CRPF convoy was attacked by Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist, a suicide bomber Adil Ahmad Dar which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF soldiers. Twelve days after the attack IAF jets breached Pakistani airspace and bombed JEM’s biggest camp in Balakot which was referred to as Balakot airstrike. “Don’t know much about attacks, it happens all the time, the attack happened in Mumbai also, we could have then reacted and just sent our planes but that is not the right approach” said Sam Pitroda.
Sam Pitroda went one step ahead and asked for several proofs by saying “I would like to know a little more because I read reports in the New York Times and other newspapers. Did we really attack? We really killed 300 people? I don’t know that. As a citizen, I am entitled to know and that doesn’t mean I’m not a nationalist, that doesn’t mean I am on this side or that side. We need to know the facts”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a scathing attack on Congress party and made use of Pitroda’s statement saying that Congress didn’t respond despite repeated provocations and terror attacks.
“Attacks like Pulwama happen all the time, wrong to attack Pakistan”- says Congress aide Sam Pitroda
