Pankaj Tripathi is in headlines for the character of Kaleen Bhaiya in Amazon Prime Series ‘Mirzapur’. However, the National School of Drama Alumni scored a central character in Satish Kaushik’s next. And Pankaj feels the script reminds him of his 14 years of struggle in Bollywood.
According to sources, the ‘Bareilly ki barfi’ actor is shooting for Satish Kaushik directorial ‘Kaagaz’ in a small town of Uttar Pradesh. The story of the film revolves around a farmer Bihari Lal aka Lal Bihari who fought a legal battle for 18 years to establish his identity and to reacquire his land and property.
Pankaj, in an interview, mentioned that the script reminded him of his struggle. “After reading the first draft of the (film’s) script without hesitation I agreed to step into the shoes of Bharat Lal. While reading the script I could easily relate the trauma and hardships Bharat Lal could have gone through for 18 years. Like Bharat Lal, I also struggled for 14 years to make my own identity in Bollywood.” said Pankaj.
He further cleared that being a farmer he can imagine and feel the pain of Lal Bihari. “Before trying my hand at acting I use to cultivate my own land with my father. After passing out of the National School of Drama, I spent many years doing small time roles in Bollywood. It took 14 years to shape my destiny, in this whole process I never lose hope and kept on struggling until I carved out my own path in this industry. I have my own experience of a long battle in Bollywood, the experience of joy, sorrows and achievements the same way ‘Bharat Lal’ has his own tale to tell.”
Pankaj also mentioned that Satish has been following his work for a few years, and though he didn’t have enough time to prepare for the role, he gave his best shot. The other projects of Pankaj Tripathi include Shakeela biopic and Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Super 30’.
