Russia honoured Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with its highest civilian award “Order of St. Andrew the Apostle” for his exceptional services in promoting bilateral special and privileged strategic partnership between Russia and Republic of India. The highest civilian honour was conferred upon PM Narendra Modi by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders have met each other on several occasions in the past five years to discuss defence and economic partnership. Putin was the only P-5 leader to telephone Narendra Modi after the Pulwama attack.
The order to award Narendra Modi was signed by the Russian President Vladimir Putin. The order is conferred upon those with exceptional services contributing to the prosperity, greatness and glory of Russia as well as heads of foreign governments for outstanding services to Russia. This is the seventh international award that Narendra Modi has been honoured with.
Just a week before Narendra Modi was conferred with Zayed Medal which is considered to be highest civilian award of United Arab Emirates for boosting relations between the two countries.
The award “The Order of St Andrew the Apostle” was established way back in the 17th Century by Tsar Peter in honour of Apostle Andrew. Between 1998 and 2018 this award has been given to around 18 people. Among the foreign awardees are the President of China Xi Jinping, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Geydar Aliev. The ceremony for the award is generally held at St Andrew Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace.
The other Awards that Narendra Modi has been conferred with include Philip Kotler Presidential Award which was awarded in January for his outstanding leadership. He was also recently awarded with the Seoul Peace Prize for his outstanding contribution to the growth of Indian and World economies.
