Why Cheat India Movie Review: A Drama on the Corrupt Education System of the Country

Directed by Soumik Sen, Why Cheat India was quite in the news for the Censor Board’s decision to add the prefix ‘Why’ to its original title. The film stars Emraan Hashmi in lead roles, supported by Shreya Dhanwanthary and Snighadeep Chatterjee. Emraan Hashmi is also one of the producers of the film.

The film revolves around the corruption involved in the education sector of the country, especially with regards to coaching classes and admissions in institutions. Emraan Hashmi’s restrained acting is a huge value addition to the film, and, stands out the most among the other little-known actors.

The plot revolves around the intertwined stories of different people, each landing up in a web of malpractices in the education department, feeding off India’s greed for good grades. The film blurs the lines between good and evil, with the lead actor being believably morally ambiguous.

However, the film surprisingly maintains a stable moral compass, which is the highlight of the movie. Although not meant for a Box-office hits, Why Cheat India definitely raises some issues that need to be voiced out sooner than later in the country.
